MATERIALS GUIDE
CORE MATERIALS
Denim We use 100% cotton denim only. That way it will biodegrade back in the environment, instead of taking up non-existent space in overly stuffed landfills.
Recycled Leather Leather is a great material. Its timeless, durable and wears well with age. Unfortunately, leather production is a heavy strain on the environment and unnecessarily harmful to countless people & animals around the globe. In the future, leather has the potential to be made more ethically, until then we only use re-purposed leather to create our products. *We try to provide other natural alternatives to vegans or those who prefer other materials to leather.
Natural Dyes We forage our own dyes locally and seasonally from local restaurants, weekend scavenger hunts & from friends. If not gathered locally, they are sustainably sourced and harvested from ethical companies. Our other materials are vintage or recycled. Any new natural fibers & materials we purchase are certified organic or come from ethical sources.
Gemstones & Metals We make a conscious effort to ethically source gems and metals. We seek out metals that are recycled or vintage and support responsible mining. We only source conflict-free gemstones, and collaboratively audit our gem suppliers. Due to the small-scale, the gemstone mining industry, presents challenges to finding traceable stones. To find out why transparency and traceability is important for gemstones please read this NY times article on lapis lazuli.
